Ulster & Munster Schools Championships

The Aviva Munster Track and Field Championship took place in Cork Institute of Technology on Saturday the 17th of May with some fantastic performances throughout the day. 

  • In the Inter Boys, Bandon Grammar School were rampant with Joey Henchy winning the 100m (11.81) and 200m (23.52), Scott Gibson adding a 400m win (49.46) and together with their team winning the 4×100m in an impressive time of 45.59.
  • The Senior Boys events were full of double winners with Mark Varley, Crescent Comp SJ, winning the 100m (12.43) and 200m (23.24), Eoin O’Carroll, Mercy Mount Hawk, capturing the long jump (7.24m) and triple jump (13.29m) titles, and Eoin Hanrahan of St. Flannan’s winning out in the shot putt (12.50m) and the discus (35.48m)
  • There was no shortage of double winners in the Inter Girls’ championship. Phoebe Murphy, Loreto Clonmel, won the 100m (12.43) and 200m (25.15) in the inter girls. Aoife Doyle, Intermediate School Killorglin, also pulled of a double in the discus (32.14m) and the hammer (46.30m).
  • Niamh McNichol and Stella Maris Tramore were dominant in the Senior Girls sprinting events winning the 100m, 200m and 4×100m relay. Leanne Prout, Presentation Ballingarry, pulled off her own double in the hurdles winning both the 100mH and the 400mH.
  • Kayleigh Cronin, St. Brigids Kilkenny, came out with two strong performances in the shot putt and hammer winning both. 

Ulster

The Antrim Forum was the host of the Aviva Ulster Schools Track and Field Championships on Friday 16th and Saturday 17th of May. Another host of young talent were on show competing for their schools.

  • Oisin O’Callaghan, Abbey Grammar Newry, dominated the middle distances winning both the 800m (2.01.5) and 1500m (4.14.5).
  • Jonathan Hill from Sullivan Upper showed his skill in the jumps by finishing first in both the triple jump(12.54m) and the long jump (6.18m) in the Inter Boys.
  • In the Inter Girls, Clodagh O’Reilly, Loreto Cavan, came out on top with win in the 1500m (4.44.02) and the 3000m (10.10.28).
  • Michaela McNally, Lurgan College, threw an impressive 42.5m in the hammer to claim her Ulster schools title.
  • Aislinn Crossey, Sacred Heart Newry, won the both the 400m and 800m in the Senior Girls championship.
  • Hannah Mc Auley, Ballyclare High won the triple jump with a fine jump of 11.47m.
