World Standard for Thomas Barr

Irish 400m Hurdle record holder Thomas Barr (Ferrybank AC) ran a time of 49.08 seconds for the 400m hurdles at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational Meet in Florida on Friday, 24th of April.

The time for Barr was inside the required qualifying time of 49.50 for the IAAF World Track and Field Championships which takes place in Beijing in August. Next up for Barr will be the World Relay Championships which take place in the Bahamas from the 2-3rd of May where Ireland will have teams taking part in the men’s 4x400m and the women’s 4x100m events.

Other Irish athletes in action in Florida included Brian Murphy (Crusaders AC) – 47.51, Brian Gregan (Clonliffe Harriers AC) – 47.69, Richard Morrissey (Crusaders AC) – 47.69 and Tim Crowe (Clonliffe Harriers AC) – 48.33 in the 400m flat event.

Phil Healy (Bandon AC) competed in the 100m and 200m events recording times of 11.78 and 24.72 seconds. Sarah Lavin (UCD AC) contested her specialist 100m hurdles event running a time of 14.00 and also ran in the 200m where she recorded a time of 25.16.

Thomond Games

Closer to home at the Thomond Games in Limerick the Irish junior women’s 4x100m relay team clocked a time of 46.17 seconds. The time was inside the qualifying standard of 46.20 for the European Junior Championships which take place in Sweden in July. 

World Youth Standard for Morland

Elizabeth Morland (Chinstown AC) produced and outstanding performance at a combined events competition in Somerset. Morland accumalated a massive points total of 5,612 points to comfortable surpass the 5,150 points needed for the IAAF World Youth Championships which take place in July in Columbia.
