Run, Jump, Throw Workshop!

POSTED:

6th, 13th and 20th of February 2019

The University of Limerick played host to Limericks first ever ‘Run, Jump, Throw Workshops’ over the month of February, with every night full of enthusiastic and energetic coaches.

Thirty coaches in total attended the workshops coming from Limerick, Cork, Kerry and Tipperary. These workshops were designed to introduce developmental coaches to the basics of some new events, ideas and coaching methods to be able to deliver appropriate sessions in running, jumping and throwing events back in their clubs. Over three consecutive weeks, the coaches participated and engaged in events such as high jump, endurance running, sprinting, long jump, hurdles and shot putt.

We had some fantastic and insightful coaches on all evenings. Pat Hogan of Ennis Track delivered an introduction to endurance running for juveniles and spoke passionately about the art of coaching, the importance of strength in numbers and most importantly enjoying the coaching journey. Rosie Daniels, Exercise Physiologist with the University of Limerick and former National Champion in the high jump, provided the coaches with practical approaches when encouraging juveniles in both the high and long jump. Dave Fraterolli from Limerick AC was extremely enthusiastic introducing the technical elements to our coaches, as well as providing the coaches with some giggles along the way. Lilly-Ann OHora introduced speed development to our coaches and discussed both the sprints and hurdles over two weeks.

Feedback has been very encouraging with all coaches saying they would like to see more of these workshops across the year. Coaches found the courses practical in nature as they got to take participate throughout the events and also had the opportunity to see some of their athletes involved in the workshops. We hope that these coaches will attend more of our workshops going forward and can take home the key messages to all their athletes, training groups and clubs !
