Athletics Ireland Recreational One Day Licence (ODL) Update 14th October 2022

The Board of Athletics Ireland has established the requirement for all non-AAI members participating in permitted Athletics Ireland recreational events to purchase a €2 One Day Licence (ODL). All revenue generated from this initiative will directly support the delivery of our high-performance programme. Further fundraising initiatives are also being considered by the Board to support the continued development of our sport. We thank all members and users for their support and contribution in ensuring this exciting new system is implemented successfully over the coming weeks and months.

User graphics illustrating the exciting new system are attached with this message and we intend to roll out updates on the system on a regular basis over the coming weeks.

The IT infrastructure to support this new Athletics Ireland ODL is developed with our partner Eventmaster and includes the following benefits.

  1. Only non-members of Athletics Ireland pay the ODL – this places a further value on being a member of a club.
  2. The ODL will be collected from permitted events taking place in 2023. Note any non-member of AAI purchasing tickets to participate in a 2023 permitted event is subject to the €2 ODL from now.
  3. All €50 permit fees will be retained by respective County Boards approving permitted events in their County. Note 80% of our 650 permitted events in 2019 were 1000 people or less and are priced at €50 for a permit which includes insurance. This represents a significant saving to our clubs and members on insurance purchases.
  4. A results database from permitted events will be developed, similar to the power of ten, this database will be a powerful tool in expanding our digitisation into the recreational space. It will allow us to communicate with a large cohort of athletes both inside and outside our clubs on a regular basis and provide access to additional services like Irish Runner Magazine in e-format.
  5. Preferential promotor rates of 4.5% for event registration excluding bank fees are offered through the new system as opposed to the standard 5% rate. Note for registration under €14.00 a €1.00 minimum will be applied.
  6. The new AI system will provide an integrated events calendar for all AI permitted events linked from the digitised permit application.
  7. The new AI system will be developed, hosted and supported by Eventmaster in partnership with AI.
  8. The new AI system now has a full-time staff resource dedicated to support the system users and user education who can be contacted athletics@eventmaster.ie
  9. Further details on the new AI system are currently being set up to explain the ODL and this will include videos and graphics to support the user experience.
  10. Athletics Northern Ireland registered club members are also exempt from the ODL as we have a reciprocal arrangement with ANI.

Thank you all for your ongoing support.
