Mulcaire Breaks 5000m Irish Junior Record

Kevin Mulcaire (Ennis Track) produced a new Irish 5000m Record when finishing second in 14.02.30 at the Trafford BMC Grand Prix meet last night. The record was held by Olympic Medallist John Treacy, has stood for 40 years (14.04.6).  Speaking to former President of Athletics Ireland Liam Hennessy, Treacy said; “Excellent running by Kevin. I am delighted to see that record go after so many years - it was time it was broken!”

The 17 year old improved on his best of 14:08.65 set a fortnight ago at the IMC in Greystones which secured the needed qualifying standard for the upcoming European Junior championships. The race was won with Andrew Heyes (GB) in 14.01.30 with Ireland’s Senior International athlete Paul Pollock (Annadale Striders) was  third in 14.11.09

Foster Fast Season Opener in Florida

At the NTC Pure Athletics Sprint meet in Clermont, Florida Amy Foster (City of Lisburn) opened her season with an impressive 11.41 (+0.7) in the 100m just one hundredth off the Irish Record held jointly by herself and Ailis McSweeney. In the 200m her time of 23.55 was one of her quickest ever over the distance with wind reading just over the legal limit (+2.1).

PB for Travers over 10000m

At the Highgate Harriers Night of 10,000m PBs John Travers ran 29.04.66 for fourth place, improving on his best from 2013 of 30:36.4

Everard Shows Form

Also in action last night was Ciara Everard (UCD AC) who finished fourth in the 800m in 2:03.24 at the BMC Grand Prix in Stretford, her second fastest outdoor  time with Claire Tarplee  seventh in 2:11.74

Loughborough International Athletics Meet

At the Loughborough International Athletics Meet, Nessa Millet competing for her university was third in 400m Hurdles in 61.81 while Christine McMahon was DQ’d. Jason Harvey was fourth in 52.27 while Paul Byrne was sixth in 53.29.  In the 110m hurdles Ben Reynolds  was third in 13.91 +1.6 m/s) while Gerard O’Donnell was 5th in a persona best of 14.10. Adam McMullan jumped an outdoor pb with 7.77m.

European Cup of Race Walking

Alex Wright finished 15th (1:23:35), just 5 seconds off the IAAF World Standard with Brendan Boyce 27th (1:26:47) in the 20k Walk at the European Cup of Race Walking in Murcia, Spain.
