Following considerable discussion of the ongoing challenges of Covid19 and international travel for high performance athletes, Athletics Ireland have confirmed that an Irish team will not be competing at the World U20 Championships scheduled for 17-22 August 2021, in Nairobi, Kenya.

This decision has been reached in consultation with the coaches of our leading athletes, the athletes themselves, and with the Board of Athletics Ireland.

The primary reason for our non-participation is the wellbeing of our athletes, our coaches and performance support team.

Athletics Ireland fully appreciates the difficulties World Athletics are facing in trying to schedule international Championships in 2021 and we wish all those involved in the U20 Championships every success.
