Fit4Class - Athletics Ireland

About the Programme

Fit4Class is a teacher-led, schools-based programme that aims to introduce primary school children to athletics in a fun, engaging, and non-competitive environment.

Who is the programme aimed at?

Primary School aged children (4 to 13yrs)

How long does it take?

Each programme is 10-weeks in duration. The programme consists of three strands: 4 to 7 year-olds, 8 to 11 year-olds, and 12+ year-olds.

The 4 to 7 year-olds section is aimed at the younger students and is structured to enable students improve agility, balance and co-ordination as the weeks progress. The skills developed will provide a basis for future participation in sports.

The 8-11 year olds section builds on the work carried in the first age group section, further developing the students agility, balance and co-ordination.

The 12+ year olds section is targeting the older students in primary schools and introduces some of the specific athletics disciplines. This will equip the students to participate further in structured athletics.

How is it delivered?

Fit4Class is delivered by the class teacher during class time, as part of PE. The programme can be carried out in either an indoor or outdoor setting utilising whatever facilities (i.e. school hall, outdoor pitch, etc.) are available in the school or surrounds.
