Athletics Ireland NRWJ (National Race Walking Judge) Level I course

Location: Athlone IT

Date: Saturday January 25, 2020.

The NRWJ (National Race Walking Judge) Level I course is intended to provide the participants with the theoretical and practical training required to make them capable of officiating at national competitions. The Level I course also identifies potential candidates to sit the evaluation to be a member of the panel of European Race Walking Judges. This course is targeted at beginners who wish to improve their judging knowledge and act as judges at future Championship events. The course will conclude with written & video examinations.

1. Introduction The NRWJ (National Race Walking Judge) Level I course is intended to provide the participants with the theoretical and practical training required to make them capable of officiating at national competitions. The Level I course also identifies potential candidates to sit the evaluation to be a member of the panel of European Race Walking Judges.

2. Objectives of the Course the aforementioned goals the NRWJ Level I course has the following detailed objectives: To apply the competition rules correctly and consistently To interpret the competition rules appropriately To be updated on the most recent rules changes and their application To have a clear understanding of the management of competitions To have a precise knowledge on the setup for each event To have a basic understanding of road measurement procedures To demonstrate proper behaviour during the competition To act independently and avoid preference for any athlete

3. Candidate Pre-requisites The pre-requisites for candidate participation on a NRWJ Level I course are at least 3 of the following: - Have an active interest in judging Race Walking events - Are aged over 21 years of age. - Are registered members of Athletics Ireland. - Have actively judged or officiated in the past 5 years. - Have previously competed in Race Walking events at National level.

4. Course Format NRWJ Level I courses are organised in a 1-Day format.

5. Course Location The NRWJ Level I Courses will be held in Athlone IT on Saturday January 25th, 2020 the same day as the National U20/23 Indoor Championships.

6. Course Lecturers The NRWJ Level I courses will be organised by Pierce O’Callaghan (IAAF Level 3 Judge)

7. Course Timetable NRWJ Level I courses follows a standard syllabus.

Paper work (Red Cards, Individual judge’s sheet, Summary sheets)

Shadow Judging the National U20/20 Indoor Championships
