Darren Campbell, one of Britain's most successful sprinters ever, will bring down the curtain on an illustrious career when he runs what may well prove to be his final 100m at the Celtic Cup in Grangemouth Stadium, Falkirk on Thursday August 17. Captain of the English Commonwealth Games team in his home city of Manchester in 2002, he was crowned European 100m Champion in 1998 and took silver 4 years later, but he perhaps saved his best performances for the Olympic arena, winning silver in the 200m in Sydney 2000 and gold as a member of the victorious 4x100m relay team in Athens 2004. Coached by 1992 100m Champion Linford Christie, his final season has been hampered by injury and he feels the Celtic Cup, where he will compete as a guest, could provide a fitting finale. Meeting Director Pierce O'Callaghan said: "It is a great honour in the first year of the event that Darren has agreed to run his final 100m race ever in Grangemouth. The LIVE coverage on BBC and the nature of the event will be such that we will be able to give him the send off he deserves and make it a really memorable night for all concerned." The Celtic Cup is an International Match between Scotland, Ireland and Wales and takes place in Grangemouth Stadium, Falkirk on Thursday 17 August.
