In order to improve (as coaches and athletes) we must always know where we are starting from, but often this ‘starting point’ is guessed or assumed by the athlete, the coach or sometimes both and this can lead to less than optimal training . An annual review is the perfect opportunity for both the athlete and coach to discuss and objectively analyse both the training and competition phases of the previous year. In turn this should cement the new ’starting point’ for the coming year. This workshop will help formulate the review process and help you (and your athlete) make sense of the previous year and use that knowledge to plan for the next.
Planning is an essential part of coaching but as an athlete moves into the area of high performance, Athletics Ireland require the athletes to submit performance plans. These are complex and time consuming documents that are typically written by the coach in consultation with the athlete. Part two of this workshop is aimed at helping coaches write performance plans, not just for the benefit of Athletics Ireland, but for the athlete and coach too. Even if your athlete is not required to submit a performance plan, it is a good habit to get into and there will be assistance on hand for both the writing of High Performance plans as well as plans that do not need to be formally submitted
