The Inspire Programme will have a positive impact on the visibility of our female members across the Women In Sport space. We will select six women who represent a cross section of our community and are passionate and willing to share this with others to inspire and promote the sport of Athletics.
Kelly Fitzgerald,West Waterford AC
I work as an accountant in Glanbia but recently completed a course in NeuroMuscular Therapy. Outside of work I love to run, I am a member of West Waterford Athletic Club and also am on the committee. I am just coming back after a 6 month injury and I’m delighted to be finally back training again. I completed the Forerunners programme as part of a WIS Leadership and have gained massively in confidence since then.

Just over 2 years ago I completed a couch to 5k programme and from there I joined my local club fethard AC, running has had a huge impact on my life, not only the physical benefits, but it’s also given me some time to take for myself, danny is a huge encouragement for me to keep myself healthy in body and mind, and hopefully I can be a encouragement to others.

Esther Lawlor Rathfarnham WSAF
Hi. I’m Esther. I am 46 and started running when I was around 27. I am a member of Rathfarnham WSAF Athletics Club. More importantly than any of that, I am a normal average runner. There was a time I thought not just that ‘I don’t run’ but ‘I can’t run’. Now running is a large part of my life – the physical benefits are one thing but it is the emotional, mental and social benefits that make me love it even more. People constantly say ‘oh but I am sooo slow’, honestly no one cares how fast you go except you. Your slow is someone elses fast. Compete against you. Your running friends will all back you and encourage you and with a little bit of that support and belief everything suddenly becomes easier – in running and beyond.”
Ciara Reilly Dunleer AC
Hi my name is Ciara. My athletics background is 400m/800m , my club is Dunleer A.C. based in Co.Louth. More recently I have joined the Starts Team with Track and Field Live and Leinster Athletics. I also a sprints coach with DKIT A.C. I am delighted to be chosen as one of the Inspire ambassadors
Dara Carr –Lambay Sports and Athletics
I am delighted to be selected as an inspire Ambassador for women in Sport and promote the sport of Athletics within our ever growing community of AI members. I truly believe it is never too late to get involved in our sport in any capacity; be it administration, adjudication, coaching or participation. As a masters athlete I feel very inspired by the wonderful female athletes around me who are totally dedicated to their sport. I hope I am inspiring the next generation by participation but more importantly by coaching and giving back to the sport in any way I can.
