Ireland triumph at Celtic Games

Ireland won the overall team title at the Celtic Games with a number of excellent performances in Morton Stadium yesterday.

Ireland tallied 188 points overall to top Scotland and Wales on the podium.

There was a host of star performers. In the girls’ ranks some of the winners were Laura Nicholson (Bandon) with 5:00.98 in the 1500m steeplechase, Miriam Daly (Carrick on Suir) clocking 56.36 in the 400m, and Jade Williams (Shercock) in the hammer with 61.09m.

Among the boys were Jack Mitchell (SLOT) winning the 400m hurdles in 55.79, James Kelly (Finn Valley) with 18.12m in the shot put, and Tony Odubote (Ennis Track) winning the 400m in 48.99.

This culminates a busy juvenile season where a number of the athletes have also competed in the Schools International, European U20 Championships and European Youth Olympics.
