Athletics Ireland is pleased to announce that we will be shortly begin our first level 2 courses This course will run for 3 weekends 21/22 April, the 12th and 13th of May and 8th and 9th of September. Coaches must attend all 3 weekends. In an attempt to keep travel at a minimum the first weekend we will hold in 5 separate locations around the country, the 2nd and third weekends we will bring all the coaches together in Tullamore. The regional locations will be announced in the coming days The structure of the course is as follows. Weekend 1. Generic Sports Science. Candidates will be given an introduction into the physiology, biomechanics and psychology of athletics. There will also be workshops on Nutrition, communication and planning etc. Weekend 2. Choose between Sprints and Throws- Candidates can choose between following the sprints or throws stream where they will specialise Weekend 3. Endurance or Jumps Candidates can choose between the Endurance or Jumps stream. All candidates will qualify in two event group disciplines. At the moment we are only able to offer the following choices Sprints and Endurance Sprints and Jumps Jumps and Throws Endurance and Throws Level 2 is open to those who have completed a level 1 coaching course and have 1 years experience coaching at level 1.
