More than a runner podcast is a weekly podcast with a one to one interview with Ireland’s top athletes and people within the running community. The podcast is primarily focused on Irish athletics but is also open to global perspectives. The
podcast began with the premise of looking at how top athletes maintain a healthy relationship with the sport but it has morphed into three main objectives. Here, top athletes have the platform to discuss their perspectives on athletics, their motivations and advice. These interviews are extremely personable with these athletes which serves to communicate to the listener that high level athletes are people before they are athletes, to try and convey to listeners that what they have achieved is not an unrealistic goal. The podcast also serves as a platform for the athletics community to discuss topics that they feel need more attention such as women’s participation in the sport, retention and motivation. More Than A Runner will discuss various topics which will be thought provoking and spark some discussions in the athletics community.
The target audience of the podcast is younger athletes in the 15-24 age group. I feel that between these ages is the toughest time to keep athletes in the sport. Hopefully the advice and perspectives discussed on the podcast will keep these athletes interested and motivated to keep going.
