After last weekends hectic activity in adverse conditions in Tullamore the juvenile championships move this coming weekend to the CIT Cork where athletes and officials will welcome the expected warm weather forecasted. On Saturday the relays are taking place. These relays are always an exciting occasion and one of the most enjoyable days of athletics. All age groups will be competing on this day from the 9’s up to the 19’s. On the Sunday pride of place goes to the younger age-groups. The Juvenile Games for the 9’s and 10’s which consists of the 60m, the Long Jump and the Ball Throw takes place. These three events form a mini multi-event with points been allotted to all athletes and the top three receiving medals with certificates for all the other athletes. The 11 year olds have four events – the 60m, 600m, Ball Throw and Long Jump from which they have chosen their 2 events. The 12 and 13 year old have their Championships with a range of 6 events for the 12’s and 8 events for the 13’s. They may compete in 3 events plus the relay. The excitement and enthusiasm of these young athletes is a sight to behold. Do come along and support our future athletes. See you at Cork I.T.
