2023 World Cross Country Championships Update

Athletics Ireland has concluded the selection process for the 2023 World Cross Country Championships, to be held in Bathurst, Australia on February 18th. No athletes have been selected for this event.

As per published Selection Policy, athletes who finished in the top 10 individual positions and teams (Senior & U20 only) that finished in the top 3 positions at the at the 2022 European Cross Country Championships, where key team members remained eligible for their respective category and were available for selection, were eligible for consideration.

Additionally, individual athletes deemed capable of a top 30 position in Bathurst would also be considered regardless of their participation or performance at 2022 European Cross Country Championships.

Key athletes in the above categories have indicated that their performance priorities currently lie elsewhere, with their focus shifting to either the European Indoor Championships, preparing for the outdoor season, or moving onto the road.
