Lead athletes to compete at national 20km race walk championships

The leading Irish racewalkers are set to compete at the Irish Life Health National 20km race walk championships in St Anne’s Park tomorrow (March 7th).

World ranking points will be at stake and could help some of the athletes qualify for the Olympic Games.

Kate Veale (West Waterford) will be looking to add the 20km race walk title to her indoor 3,000m title she won last week.

The men’s 5,000m race walk was a fascinating watch last week with David Kenny (Farranfore Maine Valley) coming out on top ahead of Brendan Boyce (Finn Valley) who starred in Doha at the world championships and Alex Wright (Leevale).

All three athletes are entered and the longer distance should play more into the feet of Boyce and Wright. It should prove to be another exciting race on the main avenue of St Anne’s Park at 11am.
