New U20 1500m record for McPhillips

Cian McPhillips broke the the Irish U20 1500m record at the AAI Summer Games in Carlow on Sunday July 25th.

The Longford AC athlete clocked a 3:40.56 to take 2 seconds off Ray Flynn’s record which had stood for 45 years.

McPhillip’s, who claimed 1500m gold at the recent European U20 Championships in Tallinn is now ranked 11th fastest U20 in the world this year and 2nd fastest European.

3 Ruairi CASEY Togher A.C. 3:52.06

There were a host of other impressive desplays on the day including Mark Smyth (Raheny Shamrock A.C) who won his series of 100m races, clocking a best of 10.40.

Sarah Quinn of St Colmans South Mayo AC crossed the line in first place in the Women's 100m in 12.07. Quinn was also in action in the 100m hurdles, finishing in first place in both races with a best of 13.74

Shane Power of St Joseph's AC Kilkenny secured a best clearance of 4.40m to claim first place in Pole Vault competition.
