O’Leary and Nolan crown great day in Dundalk

Nolan and O'Leary cap cross country action

Cheryl Nolan (St Abban’s) and Sean O’Leary (Clonliffe Harriers) ran out strong intermediate winners on a busy day of action at the Irish Life Health National Intermediate, Masters, Juvenile B and Cross Country Relay Championships in Dundalk IT today (February 3).

Cheryl Nolan backed up her novice win by coming out on top in the women’s intermediate 5,000m while Sean O’Leary was first past the post in the men’s intermediate 8,000m – strongly holding off Mitchell Byrne (Rathfarnham WSAF).

Mullingar Harriers won the women’s team with North Belfast Harriers winning the men's team.

It was a great day for the 'Stags' with pre-race favourite Mark McKinstry of North Belfast Harriers continuing his fine form to win the M35 masters’ men’s 7,000m and be first overall across the line.

Martina Kiely (St Finnbarr’s) was first of the masters’ women across the line over 4,000m and won the F35 category.

Category winners included: Denise Toner (Clones) W40, Mark Ryan (Rathfarnham WSAF) M40, Breda Gaffney (Mallow) F45, Declan Reed (City of Derry) M45, Annette Kealy (Raheny Shamrock) F50, Shane Healy (MSB) M50, Niamh O’Sullivan (An Riocht) F55 and Mick Byrne (Sli Cualann) M55. Geraldine Walsh (Mullingar Harriers) was one of the eldest winners in the F75 category with Jim Langan (Tullamore Harriers) winning the M75.

 Caoimhe Gray-Walsh (St. Nicholas A.C.) and Colm Ryan (Newport A.C.) were the first winners’ of the day in the Juvenile B U11 age groups.

 Sarah Brady (North Leitrim A.C.) and Peter Meegan (Dunleer A.C) were the final individual winners’ in the U17 age category with great numbers in the juvenile races.

The relay winners were: Dundalk St Gerard’s U12 girls, Midleton AC U12 boys, Ratoath AC U14 girls and United Striders AC U14 boys.
