Team Ireland SIAB International Cross Country

POSTED:

This Saturday, 26th March 2022, a team of 40 athletes from schools across the country will represent Ireland as they compete at the SIAB International Cross Country Competition in Wales. They will be taking on the top cross-country runners from English, Scottish and Welsh Schools.

The SIAB International Cross Country Competition has seen many of Ireland’s top athletes pass through its finish lines, such as in 2009, World Indoor Championship finalist Sarah Lavin.

The 2022 SIAB International Cross Country competition hosts athletes such as sisters Lucy and Jodi Foster of Down High School, and Clare Brothers Peter and Simon Farrell of St Flannan’s College Ennis, making this one of the rare teams where siblings represent their country together.

Junior:

In the Junior Competition Eavann Duff (Loreto Clonmel), Jamie Wallace (Colaiste Mhuire, Mullingar) and Isa Marie McCarron (Our Ladys & St Patricks College, Knock) will all compete.

Duffy crossed the Junior Girls Irish Life Health Munster Schools Cross Country Championships finish line first, at the start of this month. She will join Katie Ella McKittrick (Sullivan Upper School Belfast), Liam Morris (Colaister Cholliain Dublin) and Seamus O’Donoghue (Pobailscoil Inbhear Kenmare) in the Mixed Junior Relay.

Wallace will take to the 4KM Course this weekend after winning the Junior Boys across the Irish Life Health Leinster Schools Cross Country Championships Individual competition last month.

McCarron won the Ulster Schools Cross Country Championships last month and will be one to watch this weekend as she competes on the 3KM course.

Intermediate:

The Intermediate competition hosts a range of strong cross-country talent such as Nicole Dinan (St. Angela's Cork), Peter Farrell (St Flannan’s College, Ennis), and Oscar Legge (St Andrew's College, Dublin).

Dinan crossed the finish line of the Irish Life Health Munster Schools Cross Country in second position and first for her school this month.

Farrell won the Intermediate Boys Irish Life Health Munster's Schools Cross Country Competition this month, ahead making his debut on the 6KM competition course.

Legge was in the Top 10 of this year's Irish Life Health Leinster Schools Cross Country and will join Caoimhe Kilmurray (Loreto Mullingar), Poppy Hastings (Rainey Endowed School, Magherafelt) and Caolan McFadden (Loreto CS Milford) in the Intermediate Mixed Relay.

The competition gets underway from 10:30am, this competition is not Live Streamed.
