22 Sprinters from 11 clubs participated in The very successful' Sprint Start Workshop,' in Santry on Saturday morning. Official starter Michael O'Neill gave a very informative talk on the duties of the Starter and his team, and all the procedures connected with a successful exit from the blocks. This was followed by a practical starting session under race conditions. Each athlete got at least 3 starts all of which were videoed by National Sprints Coordinator Paddy Fay for dartfish analysis at a later date! Under the watchful eye of former National under 23 sprints coach Joey Evens, who coached Mark Howard to a European u23 200m medal, the athletes experienced the pressure, nervous energy and excitement of indoor competition. Also lending words of advice was Leinster Coach John Shields. While the false start equipment gave technician Jimmy Monaghen an amount of heartache, everyone was agreed that overall it was a very useful exercise and all expressed a wish to have repeat sessions later in the season!
