On Thursday May 22nd & Monday May 26th, over 70 coaches and athletes attended at one of two jumps workshop delivered in Templemore and Castleisland. The workshops were hosted by the Tipperary County board in association with Director of Development, Jacqui Stokes and by Kerry County Board in association with RDO Joe O Connor at the Riocht AC, Castleisland. The workshops focused on the Long and High Jump (Kerry) and Long, High and Triple Jump (Templemore). The focus was also on various warm-up techniques both on a general basis and an event specific approach. The workshops allowed both coaches and athletes attend more than one event as the evening was in 45min blocks to allow all involved equal opportunity to participate in each of the events. The tutors in Templemore were Jim Ryan (High Jump), Gareth Devlin (Triple Jump) and Jacqui Stokes (Long Jump) and in Castleisland, Jacqui Stokes (Long Jump) and Brian Flatley (High Jump). Many coaches commented on the benefit of watching other coaches working with their athletes, and in being able to question techniques, drills etc. The workshops gave coaches a chance to observe their athletes in action and also pick up some coaching points. At the end of each session the tutors held a short question and answer forum on what and how they delivered during the session. Feedback form both these workshops has been very positive and it is hoped to hold more event-specific workshops around the country. If any County Boards or Clubs have any specific requests in terms of events they would like to see offered they should contact their local RDO.
