Dublin, 8th July  2014, Business advisors Grant Thornton and Athletics Ireland have announced the return of the Grant Thornton Corporate 5k Team Challenge for a third year running.

Last year was a resounding success with 766 teams competing, an increase of 50% on the inaugural year. The 2014 edition will take place on the evening of Tuesday, 2nd September and will follow a one lap flat course around Dublin’s Docklands.

Aimed at encouraging social running amongst Dublin’s business community, the event welcomes both seasoned runners as well as beginners. This is a team event and a minimum of four participants will enter with team members’ times combined to determine the winner.

Event Ambassador, Olympian and former London Marathon winner Catherina McKiernan commented on last year’s run, “It was a fantastic sight to see so many runners taking part last year from the regular runner to the complete beginner,  this event is a great way to encourage people to take the first step towards getting fit enough to run a 5k. The team element adds a sense of fun and camaraderie amongst work colleagues.”

Colin Feely, Partner with Grant Thornton said, “As a team event, the corporate challenge is a great opportunity to build team spirit and to create a sense of healthy competition. This event goes from strength to strength every year with more people participating and I would encourage employees and employers from across Dublin to get involved. With 8 weeks left before the run there is plenty of time to get race-ready.”

Last year there were over 3,000 participants and the event was oversubscribed, early registration is advisable this year.

There will be prizes on offer for the top five teams in the Male, Female and Mixed categories and all entrants will receive a souvenir technical t-shirt and a goody bag.

Entry fee per team is €100, with 10% of every entry being made to LauraLynn – Ireland’s Children's Hospice, providing palliative care and support to children with life-limiting conditions and their families.

The event will have chip timing – a fast and accurately measured course and a great atmosphere!
