The Irishman has just finished a morning's training near Athens when a lorry, driving on the wrong side of the road, ploughed into his rental car. The result was two broken vertebrae as well as other fractures in his back. "One of the vertebrae literally exploded and I was very fortunate that it didn't sever the spinal cord," Costin tells BBC Sport.
