World records highlight national masters’ champs
Anne Gilshinan (Slaney Olympic) and Tommy Hughes (Termoneeny Running Club) set new masters world indoor records* at the Irish Life Health National Masters Indoor Championships today (March 8).
Gilshinan sped to 2:20.10 in W55 800m to add another world record to her collection which has also included a world indoor mile record this season. Similarly, Tommy Hughes has been a serial age group world record breaker and on this occasion it was the M60 3,000m winning the national title in 9:41.24. Full results HERE
There was a host of excellent performances for the ageless wonders. Lucan Harrier Carol Kearney who set two new Irish records in the W55 200m (29.84) and 400m (67.77).
Joe Gough (West Waterford) set a world lead in the M65 age category to win the 400m in 60.04.
Kelly Neely (City of Lisburn) had a double in the W45 1500m in 5:03.81 and the 3,000m 9:50.54 which was a new Irish indoor W45 record. Annette Kealy (Raheny Shamrock A.C.) won the F50 3000m in 10:20.43, also a new Irish indoor record. Mary Jennings (Waterford) won the W65 1500m in 6:37.62.
Patrick Naughton (Nenagh Olympic) won M85 gold in the 60m in 14.35, the long jump in 2.18m and the high jump with 1.00m. Terri Gough (West Waterford) won the W75 60m in 14.44 and the shot put with 6.72m.
Michael Hayes (St Mary’s Clare) won the M90 shot put with 5.65m and Sean Breathnach (Galway City Harriers) won the M40 shot put with 13.56m.
Francois Kulik (Sli Cualann) did the M35 double in the long jump with 5.57m and high jump with 1.80m.
