European Athletics Appointments

While Pierce O’Callaghan acted as Deputy Chief Judge at the Beijing Olympics, two other Irish officials were involved with the European Athletics Association at their events during the track and field season.

Such was the excellence of their contributions that they have now been invited to officiate at EAA events next season.

AAI President Liam Hennessy will act as Chairman of the Jury of Appeal at the European Cup Combined Events First League in Zaragosa/ESP 27-28 June 2009.

John Cronin will sit on the Jury of Appeal at the SPAR European Athletics Team Championships in Leiria/POR 20-21 June 2009.

He has also been invited to act as ITO/ATO (International / Area Technical Official) at the European Athletics Junior Championships in Novi-Sad/SRB 23-26 July 2009.

Athletics Ireland congratulates both on their appointments.

Leevale Multi Events Coaching

In an attempt to fill the void in the track and field calendar for young athletes Leevale AC will host three multievent development days. These will take place on Saturday mornings at the CIT track between October and December. The purpose of these development days is to introduce young athletes to a range of athletic events. On each day the athletes will be coached in two of the selected events, one field and one track event on each day. The athletes will then compete in the coached event for points and at the end of the three training sessions they will be given their points total. These development days are open to all athletes from all clubs. Everyone is welcome.

A timetable of events will be posted on the Leevale website in advance.
