Forest Feast begin Summer Athletics Jamborees with a blast

POSTED:

Over 300 young athletes from across the country joined together to celebrate sport at the opening three 2015 Forest Feast Little Athletics Jamboree. The opening three action packed events have taken place in Kilkenny, Athlone and Bray. The last of four Jamborees is due to take place in Cork over the coming weeks. The Jamborees, aimed to bring together Forest Feast Little Athletics clubs from the local area to participate in various games, challenges and activities.  The fun-filled events provided athletes aged 5-8 years old with a range of opportunities.

Kilkenny

The camps began in Graiguenamanagh, Kilkenny where young athletes tried their hand at a multitude of sports. The indoor facilities provided the perfect grounds for the participants to enjoy the day where a great turnout allowed for a fun day for all involved. The leaders introduced new skills to the young athletes and assisted their development in a friendly environment where children began to learn a passion for sport.

Athlone

The second week of camps took place the following week in Athlone Institute of Technology. The Athlone facilities boast an impressive indoor track; however the pleasant weather meant that the jamboree could be held outdoors. The blue skies allowed the athletes to practice many running events along with jumping and field events outdoors. With such a large campus available in Athlone, plenty of room was provided for all activities with children cheering on their friends as they practiced each new skill and event.

Bray

The most recent camp took place in Ballywaltrim community centre in Bray, County Wicklow. The opportunity to try out a variety of new sports kept the young participants interested throughout the day, and the races and competitions ensure the children could support their new friends during the jamboree.  The teachers and young athletes had great fun together, attempting to learn new skills and challenging each other during minigames. Bray Sports Promotion Unit played a huge part in making the day a success as did Bray Community Gardaí. Many schools took part and all worked together including St.Kierans National School, St Philomenas Primary School, St.Fergals National School and Bray School Project.

Upcoming Jamborees

Speaking about Forest Feast Little Athletics Jamborees, Christine Whelan, Forest Feast Field Sales Manager said:

“The Forest Feast Little Athletics clubs are a fantastic way to bring children together to make friends and experience new, enjoyable sporting activities. The regional Jamborees allow the young athletes to showcase their progress, challenge their ability, but most importantly have fun, socialise and get active.

The final camp is planned to take place in Cork over the coming weeks and will offer young sport enthusiasts a great opportunity to try out a range of different events in a fun and friendly environment.
