School’s International Team Set for Scotland!
The Irish Schools Team has been announced for the upcoming Schools’ International on Saturday 18th July 2015 in Grangemouth Stadium, Scotland. The upcoming event features the best young athletes from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales to compete in a wide variety of Track & Field events.
Provisional Timetable for Events
The Irish Team features the best and brightest of Ireland’s School athletes. With many juvenile and school champions competing for Ireland, it is sure to be a day to remember in Scotland for the athletes. Sprinter Molly Scott leads the girls to the event while sprinter and long jump athlete Daniel Ryan will take captaincy for the boys.
Scott claimed first place in the 80m hurdles in the GloHealth Irish Schools T&F Finals for 2015. Ryan achieved a double, winning the Intermediate Long Jump along with the 100m hurdles.
Girls Team Striving for Success
The team features a field of consistent athletes who have all achieved victory on a national level and will be aiming to go one step further. The experienced team lead the way for the future of Irish running, jumping and field athletics.
Lauren Ryan and Janine Boyle also compete in the sprints, two athletes who have performed consistently throughout the year in both school and club competition. The athletes both ran impressive times in the sprints at the All Ireland School’s and will look to continue form into the coming weekend.
Sommer Lecky (high jump) and Sophie Meredith (long jump) compete in the jumps. Sophie Meredith set a new record at the National Schools jumping 5.67m in the junior category. Sommer Lecky won the high jump at 1.72m. At the same event, Niamh Fogarthy won the intermediate discus with an impressive throw of 34.54m.
Boys Team Features Wide Range of Track and Field Athletes
In the boys team, David Murphy and Kevin McGrath feature as part of the team. David Murphy won the 100m Intermediate at the National Schools with an excellent time of 11.14. Kevin McGrath taking part in the 800m took command of the race earlier in the year when he claimed the National 800m School title in 1:57.22.
Brendan O’Donnell and Stephan McCorry take part in the hammer throw; the athletes battled it out at the Irish Schools throwing 59.42m and 58.75m respectively. Shane Martin won the pole vault at 4.15m.
