Progression has been severely halted by injury but when on form is one of the most lethal finishers around. Won Epic National 1,500m titles this year ahead of James Nolan as well as upsetting the odds to beat David Matthews to win National 800m title in 1999. Coached by Dr. John Morrin in Belfast and was one of 5 St. Malachys athletes in the National 1500m this year. Victorious at Cork City Sports in July and surprisingly this marks his debut at a major Championship at Senior level outdoors.

2003 Form:

Excellent form so far with wins in Cork and Nationals both over his favoured 1,500m. Has waited along time to take his place in major Championship 1,500m and with his tactical nous and ability to deliver in major championships he will be sure to cash in on his form.

Spectacular breakthrough into International level this year since he hooked up with renowned distance coach Joe Doonan after Christmas. These Championships will be his major championship

debut on the track following years of injury, illness and overtraining. Secured the "B" standard for the 10,000m at the World Championships and Olympic Games at the AAA 10,000m Championships on 5th July and followed this with an "A" Standard for both championships in the 5,000m at the IAAF Grand Prix II Meeting in Heusden, Belgium on 2nd August. His time of 13.19.22 was one of the fastest ever by an Irishman and guaranteed his participation at the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004. The primary focus for the World Championships will be on the 10,000m, which will be a straight final on 24th August. The race features one of the greatest lineups ever, including Olympic Champion Haile Gebrselassie (Ethiopia), World Champion

Charles Kamathi (Kenya) and double World Cross-Country Champion Kenenisa Bekele (Ethiopia). His targets are to break 28 mins for the first time and attempt to break Mark Caroll's Irish Record of 27 mins 46 secs.

2003 Form:

Beyond his wildest expectations! Has already improved his PB’s over all distances including his 5000m by over a minute. With 13.19 speed in him he could be well placed to pull off a major performance particularly if the race is tactical over the first 5,000m.
