Day 2 of the track and field schedule was a very successful one for the Irish athletes at the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China. Adam King (Iveragh AC) and Michaela Walsh (Swinford AC) both competed on the day.

Michaela Walsh had a great start to her Youth Olympics campaign in the Shot Putt throwing a new personal best of 15.59m. This was her last throw of the Qualification Round and it put her 6cm ahead of Lada Cermanova (Czech Republic) placing Walshe in 7th position and qualifying her for the A final. The final will be during the Sunday evening session at 13.25 Irish Time.

Also in action on Thursday was Adam King in the Hammer. King also had a great qualification round throwing a new personal best of 71.91m. This throw was on his 3rd of four attempts and placed him 8th overall in qualification just 46cm ahead of Polish athlete Adrian Muszynski. This was enough to get him into the A Final which will also be starting on Sunday during the evening session at 13.20 Irish Time.

Today will see Roseanna McGuckian (City of Lisburn AC) run in the Heat 2 of the Women’s 200m at 13.42 Irish Time.
