New Year, New Goals!

POSTED:

As we start the New Year here in Athletics Ireland excited to see what the next 12 months bring, we can now reflect on what was an extremely successful 2018 which culminated in the Irish Life Health National Athletics Awards taking place in The Crowne Plaza Hotel at the end of November.

The great thing about the annual award ceremony is that it gives us all the opportunity to celebrate and congratulate our international and national athletes, while also commemorating the association’s exceptional volunteer base successes for their hard work from the past 12 months.

Our heartstrings were pulled after Paddy Marley was named given the well-deserved ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’, while Frank Greally, editor of the Irish Runner magazine for over 30 years was a very worthy recipient of the Special Recognition Award for contribution to athletics.

After an extremely successful afternoon, Thomas Barr was named as the Athlete of the Year thanks largely to his exploits in Berlin during the summer.

Looking forward to 2019, we are currently in the first few weeks of our new registration system. Although it is a learning curve for all of us, we are determined to make the system more user-friendly for our clubs and members, while making Athletics more accessible for athletes of all ages!
