Running and Parenthood

POSTED:

Parenthood is a workout in itself. From juggling endless jobs before the school run, to late-night feeds on not enough sleep, it's no surprise that finding time to go for a run can sometimes seem like an impossible task. Check out these top tips on building running into your busy routine.

1. Early bird

It’s so common to hear people say they’re more proactive if they’ve had a morning run. Why not start your day off on the right foot by getting your run done early. There’s no impact on family time and it’s a sure fire way to boost your motivation for the day.

2. Run with a buggy

Running with a buggy is a great way to tone up your whole body. Luckily, there are some amazing models out there that have been specially adapted to accommodate running. So lace-up your trainers and take your little one out for some fresh air. It’s a great way to enjoy the great outdoors together.

3. Find a running buddy/babysitter

Find someone who has the same childcare issues as you and take it turns to babysit while the other one runs. You could do it on alternate days or make it an all-in-one morning arrangement. That way you both get to exercise, and can look forward to a cuppa and a chat while the kids play.

4. Bring the older ones along

When your children have outgrown their buggy why not encourage them to join you for a quick jog around the park. For little ones that don’t want to run themselves, simply bring their scooter or bike along. It’s a great chance to spend some quality time and keep active as a family.

5. Run to or from work, or during your lunch

Providing you live close enough (and have shower facilities available) this is a great way of incorporating exercise into your day. Sorting what you need to pack is important, but once you’ve done it a few times you’ll be a pro! Imagine getting home knowing you’ve already exercised, the rest of the evening is all yours and it hasn’t had an impact on family time.

Happy running!

However, you decide to get your run in make sure you don’t stress over it. Our lives are manic enough without adding more worries. Choose a method that fits comfortably with your daily or weekly life and always remember 10 minutes is better than no minutes at all. Always make sure to adhere to the latest Government guidelines in relation to Covid-19.
