The closing date for the 2008 Champion Sports Cork City Marathon is fast approaching. Already thousands of entries have been received for both the marathon and the marathon relay and this years marathon looks set to be the biggest in Cork since the 1980's. The marathon relay was a big success last year with West Waterford Athletic Club winning the race. Marathon Relays Teams can be made up of between 2 and 5 athletes, men or women. There are 5 legs in the marathon relay varying in length from 4 to 7 miles so there is a leg suitable for all athletes and all abilities. The relay works with athletes passing on a wrist band to their relay partner. Last year in the relay, there were athletic club relay teams, family relay teams, charity relay teams, community relay teams, all of who enjoyed the chance to participate in the marathon experience without having to run all 26.2 miles. However, if you do want to be part of the marathon experience by running all 26.2 miles, this is the marathon for you - the course is relatively flat - helpful to anybody looking for a fast time or doing it for the first time. The 2008 route is essentially the same as the 2007 route and will again incorporate the Jack Lynch Tunnel. The 2008 Champion Sports Cork City Marathon will take place on Monday, June 2nd.
