Limerick Athletic Club Dooneen celebrated its 30th Anniversary with a Gala Night in the recently opened Marriott 5 Star Hotel on Thursday Night Nov. 22nd 2007. DooneenJohn Treacy with the Ireland Representatives Athletes at the Dooneen 30 Year Celebration in the Marriott on the 22nd of November 2007. Mr Ronnie Long talked about the exciting era of Athletics surrounding the Chief Guest on the night John Treacy, Chief Executive Sports Council. It was an exceptionally poignant night for John considering that he had won the World Cross Country Championship in Limerick in 1978. The highlight of the night was an Audio presentation on the history of Dooneen for the last 30 years. DooneenJohn Treacy with Phil Roche, head coach of the Dooneen AC club in Limerick, presenting an award to Niall Counihan at the Dooneen 30 Year Celebration in the Marriott on the 22nd of November 2007. Tom O’Connor, Chairman, paid special tribute to the original 10 Founder Members, most of whom attended the function. Phil Roche, Secretary, gave special mention to Mr Gerry Burke R.I.P. one of the early and most dedicated Coaches in the Club. Mr Tom Halpin the first Chairman of Dooneen gave an exciting talk on the early days of the Club and got thunderous applause. Mr Mossy Woulfe, Chairperson of Limerick A.A.I. also spoke and thanked all the Parents and Coaches who gave of their time over the years.
