Exciting Coaching Conference Ahead

The 2015 Northern Ireland Coaching Conference, hosted by Athletics NI, will take place on Saturday 19th of September at University of Ulster Jordanstown.

Building on the success of previous conferences the event will involve a mixture of presentations and practical workshops. Tony Hadley will start the day with a keynote presentation on his experience of developing European 400m Silver Medallist Matthew Hudson-Smith (44.75s).

Former Head of Coaching for British Athletics and England Athletics Richard Wheater will discuss the lessons he has learned from studying elite training environments around the world and then deliver a practical workshop on the sprints & hurdles.

Physical Preparation guru Dave Rowland will also be in attendance and deliver a practical workshop centred around physical preparation for the throws. Jumps coaches are also in for a treat as former GB International Triple Jumper, and technical advisor to Phillips Idowu, Femi Akinsanya will be presenting on the practical implementation of plyometrics.

The final workshop of the day will be presented by Jared Deacon who will draw on his experience working as Lead S&C Coach for the English Institute of Sport, to provide endurance coaches with details of cutting edge physical preparation methods for Middle and Long Distance Endurance.

Tom Crick, Athletics NI Director of Coaching and Athlete Development, said: “This is the first major coach development opportunity of the year and I’m looking forward to welcoming coaches to Belfast. This year there is a strong emphasis on practical workshops so there should be something for everyone to pick up and implement as they return to winter training."

The University of Ulster Jordanstown is located only 20 minutes from the Belfast City Centre and close to both Belfast International and Belfast City Airports. The conference costs £35 for Athletics Coaches and £50 for coaches from other sports.
