Inter Counties Call to Arms
Tuam and County Galway are set to host the GloHealth Inter County Cross Country Championships for the first time in 42 years on Sunday, February 14th.
With home advantage Galway team manager Ian Egan is hoping the Tribes can claim its first gold medal in 30 years at the event. There is an excellent preview of their build in the Connacht Tribune HERE
The four race card programme sees the junior women 4km at 12:00, the junior men 6km at 12:20, the senior women 8km at 12:45 and the senior men 10km 13:25. Olympic marathon hopeful Gary Thornton (Galway City Harriers) will be leading the charge for Galway and there is a call for entries for the Counties to rise to the challenge and toe the line.
So make yourself available for you County and get on to your County secretary. Here is a sample of a call to arms by the Cork Athletics:
"Would YOU like to represent Cork?
There are all sorts of athlete: Some athletes volunteer themselves, others expect to be asked, some would love to be asked, and many think (themselves) that they're not good enough. Whatever category you feel you belong to, but would like to wear the Red Singlet, as we say here in Cork, "De Blood 'n' Bandages", please let us know - we *Really Do* want to hear from you!!!"
Make it a special event in Tuam on February 14th.
