HP Events Postponed

POSTED:

The High Performance Unit of Athletics Ireland continues to closely monitor the Coronavirus outbreak and the advice from the National Public Health Emergency Team, the HSE, and Sport Ireland Institute.

The health and safety of the ‘performance community’ (athletes, coaches, service providers, etc) is our priority and we are determined to be calm, calculated and proactive regarding precautions to limit the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), while also being mindful of the need to cause minimal disruption to athlete preparation for Tokyo 2020, World Athletics U20 Championships, European Athletics U18 Championships and other key events still scheduled in the performance calendar.

With that in mind, and with ‘an abundance of caution’ informing our decision, we have chosen to postpone all HP scheduled activity requiring gatherings of performance athletes up to and including March 29th, consistent with the time period for measures announced by an Taoiseach this morning, March 12th, including the following events:

March 14th - Senior 4x4, U20 4x4 & U20 4x1 squad sessions, Tallaght AC
March 21st - Senior 4x1 squad session, Tallaght AC
March 26th - Tokyo Team Day, Sport Ireland Institute

All athletes and coaches invited to the above events will be contacted ASAP to confirm above.

Further to that, the Warm Weather Training Camp for Field Event athletes scheduled for 12th – 19th April has been cancelled.   The National Field Event Coordinator will contact all effected athletes to discuss same.

The situation is changing rapidly and we will continue to monitor developments and update our website and communications on a regular basis.
