Juveniles ace Athlone on day 1

There was plenty of good competition and excitement on day 1 of the Irish Life Health Juvenile Indoor Championships in Athlone IT today (March 30).

Performances were impressive on the track and in the field. Jack Raftery (Donore Harriers) won the U19 boys 400m well in 50.14 as did Simone Lalor (SLOT) in the U19 girls 400m in 56.16.

Robert McDonnell (Galway City Harriers), 49.98, and Caoimhe Cronin (Le Cheile), 57.33, won respective U18 titles

Karlis Kaugars (Dunleer A.C.) continues to impress in the throws and he won the U15 boys shot put with 16.32. Kotryna Pacerinskaite (Fanahan Mc Sweeney A.C.) won the U15 girls shot put with 13.07.

Anna McCauley (City of Lisburn A.C.) won the U19 girls long jump with 5.53m while Laura Frawley (St. Marys (Limerick) A.C.) and Aoife O’Sullivan (Liscarroll) both cleared 1.70m to win respective U16 and U17 girls high jump titles.

Adam Nolan (St. L. O'Toole A.C.) delivered a championship best performance to win the boys U16 pole vault with 3.50m.

Two of the leading performances in the walks were Patrick Hyland (Swinford) winning the U15 boys 1500m race walk in 4:51.64 1500m race walk with Sarah Glennon (Mullingar Harriers) winning U19 girls gold in 6:43.87.

Tadgh Donnelly (Drogheda & District A.C.) won the U18 boys 1500m in 4:05.11 while Ava O`Connor (Tullamore Harriers A.C) won the U17 girls in 4:42.52.
