International expert speakers to address “Nutrition and Peak Performance” hosted by the Sports Nutrition Interest Group and supported by the Irish Sports Council Good nutrition is essential to reaping the maximum reward from sporting activity, whether you are an elite performer or a recreational participant. Making the correct choices about what and when to eat and drink will help every sports person realise the maximum health and performance benefits from their sporting efforts. The Sports Nutrition Interest Group, associated with the Irish Nutrition and Dietetic Institute, are hosting a conference in Croke Park on January 27, 2007, which will provide athletes, coaches, fitness professionals, parents and participants with essential information on appropriate nutrition in sport. Supported by the Irish Sports Council, the event will hear from national and international experts on the best practice in nutritional management in sport. Speakers will include Greg Cox of the Australian Institute of Sport, Professor Ron Maughan of Loughborough University, Ruth Wood Martin, the Performance Nutritionist of the IRFU, and Dr Hans Geyer of the German Sports University in Cologne. Among the topics they will address at the day-long event will be:
- Nutrition in preparation for exercise and competition
- Hydration in sport
- Recovery from exercise – nutrition and lifestyle factors
- Making weight in weight category sports
