O'Connor stars in Athlone
Kate O’ Connor (St Gerard’s Dundalk) scored an Irish senior pentathlon record (subject to ratification) with a score of 4,108 points at the Irish Life Health National Combined Events in Athlone today (January 20).
O’Connor’s stock continues to rise as she won the junior crown with 9.09 seconds in the 60m hurdles, 1.79m in the high jump, 12.63m in the shot put, 5.62m in the long jump and 2.20.8H in the 800m.
Lara O’Byrne (Donore Harriers) was second with 3,188 points with Katie Walsh (Carraig-Na-Bhfearr) with 2,886 points.
Sarah Connolly just edged Amy McTeggart (Boyne) in the senior's women's with a total of 3,661 points to 3,636 points. Naomi Morgan (City of Derry Spartans) was third with 3,324 points.
Shane Aston (Trim) defended his senior men’s crown with 3,503 points ahead of Rolus Olusa (Clonliffe Harriers) on 3,354 points with Michael Surman (City of Derry Spartans) third on 2,738 points.
Trevor McGlynn (Omagh Harriers) was first M35 on 2,417 points while Patrick Curran (Tallaght) topped the M40 plus section on 2,689 points.
Geraldine Finegan (North East Runners) had a championship best performance in the F50 section with 2,926 points.
Ava Rochford (Ennis Track) topped the U14 girls with 2,983 points while Laura Frawley (St Mary’s Limerick) won the U15 with 3,123 points, Niamh McCorry (Annalee) headed the U16 with 3,086 points and Anna McCauley (City of Lisburn) won the Youth with 3,841 points.
In the boys ranks William Bello (Ennis Track) won the U14 boys with 2,209 points with Harry Nevin (Leevale) continuing his winning ways in the U15s with a championship best performance of 3,349 points.
Jack Forde (St Killian’s) won the U16s on 3,348 points while Brian Lynch (Old Abbey) won the Youth with a championship best performance of 3,499 points.
Tadhg Murtagh (Kildare) was the best junior man on 2,955 points.
