Pender soars to new heights

Barry Pender jumped a European standard of 2.26m for the High Jump at an indoor meeting in Cardiff on the weekend.

The St Abban’s athlete has made an excellent start to the New Year and is the first person to qualify this calendar year for the European Athletics Championships in Amsterdam in July.

Pender has been working hard in the UK and it has paid dividends with his 2.26m a new personal best. He is now just 3cm off the Olympic Games qualifying height of 2.29m.

In an excellent start to the year in the jumps, Adam McMullen (Crusaders) was in impressive form in the long jump in Jordanstown recording 7.70m.
