Our Events and Competitions Join the Period Supportive Movement

On Menstrual Hygiene Day, Athletics Ireland are delighted to announce that our National  Senior Track and Field Championships, taking place in Morton Stadium June 29th & 30th, will be the first competition to be officially Period Supportive.

The event will have free accessible period products and FabLittleBag on hand so participants can always easily and confidently manage their period needs.

Anna Grealish, Athletics Ireland Women in Sport Lead said: “Our National Senior Track and Field Event will be the first competition to be officially period supportive. This is the next step for us to ensure that being on your period is not a barrier to taking part in events. We are setting ourselves an ambitious target by aiming to have all Athletics Ireland events period positive by 2025. The Senior Track and Field Event is a major step in the right direction for us”.

Earlier this year, Athletics Ireland committed to ensuring that Athletics Ireland owned mass participation events have free accessible period products and FabLittleBag on hand so participants can always easily and confidently manage their period needs.

Martha Silcott CEO of FabLittleBag said: “Athletics Ireland continue to lead with positive action as their Senior Track and Field Competitors will now be a Period Supportive Event; period products and FabLittleBags for easy and responsible disposal will be freely and easily available at this event. If you are 'caught short' you simply help yourself and disposal is now easy, hygienic and responsible; all bases are covered! Athletic Ireland, led by the impressive Anna Grealish (Women In Sport Lead) are taking huge strides in normalising periods within their sport and breaking down barriers that helps to keep women and girls in sport; feeling welcomed and included.”
