Sprints and Hurdles Squad Santry 21st April 2007. Over twenty five athletes and a number of their personal coaches attended the National Sprints and Hurdle Squad Session in Santry on Saturday. This , the first squad session in these disciplines to be held in quite a while, was an outstanding success! Athletes from as far afield as Waterford,Cork , Wexford and Roscommon and several counties in between were Put through their paces by Top coaches John Sheehan and Joe Evans in sprints and Brian Corcoran and Mary Burgoyne in Hurdles! Video analysis was provided by Stephan Caroll and Paddy Fay while speed gates were operated by Fiona O’Friel and Claire Brady. Every athlete who attended , from the high profile Derval O’Rourke to all of the juniors went home with a tape Of their running and hurdling in the Dart Fish format for analysing By their coaches providing essential detailed information on their Biomechanics! They also had split times on 40m, 60, and 80m that will give them an insight to the sections of their 100m which may need to be worked on. After lunch in ALSAA the athletes were congratulated by National Sprints Coodinator Paddy Fay on their selection onto The National Squad which is a recognition by the association of the achievements of themselves and their coaches! Paddy then gave a powerpoint presentation on Pathways to “ Olympic and World Chp participation”, “The Dream And the Reality”, focussing on the coming Seasons fixtures and Standards for selection together with The Way Forward to achieve these goals!The athletes departed fully motivated and confident, Looking forward to the next session
