116 delegates from 19 countries attended the European Athletics Coaches Association's annual congress in Dublin last weekend (10 to 12 November). The Congress programme, the theme of which was "The Winning Difference", featured Formula One Driver Alan McNish and other top-level speakers from both inside athletics and outside the sport. Participants were also able to select four from a list of 20 workshops lead by a team of international-class coaches from Ireland and abroad. As it has for more than a decade, the EAA supported the congress with a grant to the local organisers and made scholarships available so that all its Member Federations could send a coach to participate. Chief Executive of Athletics Ireland, Brendan Hackett, warmly congratulated the EACA and the local organisers on the success of the congress. For Hackett, a former Olympic coach, it was particularly pleasing to be involved in such a gathering in his home city. "For me coaching is the most under valued resource in Athletics" he said. "It is great to be involved in putting something as valuable as this on in Dublin and I hope that it was valuable for all the experts who travelled from far and wide to be here this weekend" The congress was held in the Park Plaza hotel and Conference Centre. Keynote presentations were given in the main hall and workshop sessions took place in "break-out" rooms located throughout the centre. At the end of the congress, the EACA announced next year's congress will take place in Moscow on 2-4 November.
