Take the challenge

Why not try something new this Autumn and run the Athletics Ireland Open Cross Country 2015? Run in the picturesque surrounds of the Magazine Fort in the Phoenix Park on October 18th with a choice of 5km or 8km distances - it's a great chance to freshen up your running and challenge yourself this winter.

There will be a great mix of competition and participation from those taking their first steps in cross country to athletes looking to make their mark ahead of the National Cross Country and European Cross Country to the evergreen Masters vying for international selection. The undulating course in picturesque surrounds provides the perfect opportunity to experience running in a natural environment

5km the perfect start

The open 5km is the perfect start for those dipping their toes into cross country for the first time or making a return from the wilderness. There is nothing stopping you from mixing with the pack in the 8km race

Fionnuala McCormack (nee Britton) has historically used the race to open up her season but will be missing this year as she prepares for the Chicago Marathon. However, the likes of Mary Cullen are expected to toe the line along with some top junior and U23 athletes looking to stake their claim for European Cross Country teams in December.

Cross country is a proven stomping ground for improving your performance on the road and the track along with enjoying the experience of being in an organic atmosphere and setting. Online entry is here
