Irish athletes headed to England Meath athlete, Sara Treacy, who won 4 x Schools CC titles up to 2006, 3 x Schools1500 titles, National Junior CC champ in 2006 and Schools International CC in 2005, has accepted a place in medicine and a sports scholarship in Birmingham University (UK). UK National Distance Coach Bud Baldaro is head coach. University is UK Athletics centre of excellence and UK Universities CC Champs for men and women. Several prominent UK distance runners based there. Injury prevented her competing in the first half of 2007. Westport High Jumper Pamela Hughes, prolific winner of National titles, goes to Brunel University also in the UK to study Sports Science. Brunel can boast Jo Jennings for High Jump, Ian Grant for Multi events and Linford Christie for Sprints among their coaching staff. Rose Anne Galligan has turned her back on Tennessee and is headed for St. Mary's London to continue her studies. Incidentally, Princess Rose Anne finished 6th, 8th and 15th in her three races this season and is clearly not in the same class as Sir Gerry!!! (next outing Shadwell Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket in early October) Meanwhile, Wesley Alkin, running unattached, was fourth in the University of Evansville 2007 Mid-America Opener, clocking 18:15.57 for the 6k.
