Ferrybank set to dominate women's sprints The 5,000m walk for men and the 3,000m walk for women, usually held with the senior championships, get the AAI junior championships underway at 11am in Nenagh on Sunday. The sprints dominate in terms of entries. On the men's side Eoin Hannon from Tullamore Harriers will be odds onto win the 60m hurdles and the long jump. His 7.12m effort at the English championships in Birmingham ranks him number three in Ireland. The all conquering Ferrybank squad should dominate the women’s sprints, with Niamh Whelan, Mairead Murphy, Mairead Deevey and Kelly Proper all expected to add to their successful season. Kelly Proper can add yet another long jump title to her long list of achievements. The women’s high jump should be an absorbing contest with Maureen Farrell from Fr. Murphy’s, Grainne Moggan from Brothers Pearse, and Pamela Hughes from Westport all closely ranked. Frances O’Shea from North Cork and Laura Scriven from St. L. O’Toole should provide a good race in the 800m, while the 400m is another Ferrybank dominated affair with Jessie Barr, Kalyn Sheehan and Mary O’Connor in action.
