Athletics Ireland welcomes the news that the 2017 Sports Capital Allocation has granted Athletics €987,245 today (€620,000 in 2015).

The Sports Capital Programme has been of significant benefit in improving the quality and quantity of sporting facilities throughout the country.

C.E.O. of Athletics Ireland, John Foley, said: ‘It is pleasing to see athletics allocated close to €1million which will greatly assist our clubs in the continued development of our sport. The facilities for athletics continue to improve in all parts of Ireland. In 2016 the opening of the National Indoor Track was a major initiative in the development of athletics and today’s announcement is a further positive step in copper-fastening our growth aspirations.

Athletics Ireland recently passed 60,000 members for 2017, more than doubling its membership since 2009. Today’s announcement on capital investment and the investment over the past number of years has been significant in assisting us in achieving this growth’.
