Athletics Ireland's High Performance Team is delighted to confirm the Sprints Relay Coaching team ahead of the 2023 outdoor season.

The team remains largely unchanged since the 2022 season, one which was immensely successful for the relay programme, with National Indoor Records for both the Men’s and Women’s 4x400m squads at the World Indoor Championships in Serbia, two teams competing at the 2022 World Championships (Women’s 4x100m, Mixed 4x400m), including a global final for the Mixed 4x400m, and two teams competing at the 2022 European Championships (Men’s 4x100m, Women’s 4x400m) including a National Outdoor Record and 6th place finish for the Women’s 4x400m.  So far in 2023 the Women’s 4x400m were one of only six teams to qualify for the European Indoor Championships where they finished 5th.

Drew Harrison (Mixed 4x400m), David McCarthy (Women’s 4x400) and Paul McKee (Men’s 4x400m) return as Senior 4x400m coaches while David and Paul will also lead the Women’s and Men’s U23 teams, respectively.  David McCarthy also continues in the role of 4x400m Coordinator.

Daniel Kilgallon returns as Senior Men’s 4x100m coach, having led that team to the 2022 European Championships, while he will additionally lead the U23 Men’s squad in 2023.  Daniel has chosen to focus on these two squads in 2023, having also led the Senior Women’s team to the World Championships in 2022.   Therefore, the High Performance team is seeking to appoint a suitable candidate to fill the role of Senior & U23 Women's 4x100m Coach for the upcoming 2023 season.  Details are below.

Recently appointed Performance Sprints Lead Christian Malcolm will have overall responsibility for the Senior & U23 Relay programme.

At U20 Level, Dean Adams continues as Women’s 4x100m coach, while Kevin Cogley continues as the Men’s 4x100m coach. Dermot McGranaghan will continue as Men’s and Women’s 4x400m coach.  Performance Pathway Manager Jacqui Freyne will oversee the relay programme at U20 Level.

The High Performance Team would like to thank all of these coaches for their immense contribution in 2022 and look forward to further success in 2023.
