Rob Heffernan, competing in the Danish Championships today, achieved the A standard in the 20K walk for the world athletics championships in Osaka next year with a time of 1hr 22mins 24secs. Heffernan who has been bedevilled with injury in the past few years missed the European Championships in Gothenburg as he was not fully fit following an hernia operation in May. A series of good form over the shorter 5K and 10K in recent weeks gave a clear indication of a return to form. Rob can now concentrate on the major events of next year and will no doubt be looking forward to mixing it once again with the top flight performers in the European Cup of Racewalking in Leamington , England next May. Jamie Costin also competing in Denmark had a very solid performance finishing in 1hr 26mins 41secs. In the world 20K road championship in Debrecen, Hungary Cian Mcloughlin finished 57th in a time of 62mins 22 secs with Joe McAllister who had beaten him recently in the national half marathon in 70th place in a time of 63mins36secs.
